                                D.C. Soccer Adds Bearman, Parlow-Cone, and Skinner To Its Board of Directors

D.C. Soccer is proud to announce that it will be adding Alex Bearman, Cynthia Parlow Cone, and Jackie Skinner to its D.C. Center for the Development and Promotion of Soccer Board of Directors. Each of these individuals has an extensive history not only with the game of soccer, but also in promoting human rights and international development abroad. As D.C. Soccer and Goal for Girls continue to grow entering our tenth year, adding their experience will only enhance our efforts in creating a viable soccer community in the Washington D.C. area and abroad.

 Alex Bearman
Alex is the Executive Director at District Sports here in D.C. which provides soccer leagues to adults with over 3,500 participants annually. He has forged strong strategic relationships with D.C. Public Schools, D.C. Department of Park and Recreation, and private interests throughout the District.District Sport’s mission is to give back to those less fortunate, and Alex is constantly looking for ways to use the platform to collect and redirect resources towards sport-based causes in the D.C. area. Alex also volunteers with Street Soccer USA and previously worked with love.futbol and JSI where he worked on behalf of USAID to distribute humanitarian aid in Latin America and East Africa.

Cindy Parlow Cone

Cindy is formerly the Head Coach of the Portland Thorns of the National Women’s Soccer League. In just their first year, Mrs. Parlow Cone led the Thorns to the inaugural NWSL Title. Before moving to Portland, she was the Director of Coaching for Triangle United and Assistant Coach at the University of North Carolina. Prior to her coaching career, she was a feature player on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team winning two Olympic gold medals(1996 and 2004,) one silver medal (2000) and the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. As part of the Goals for Girls program, Cindy has traveled to Peru (2010) and South Africa (2012) and will be joined this year’s program in India. She has also traveled abroad several times with the U.S. State Department as a Sports Envoy.

Jackie Skinner
Jackie serves on the Goals for Girls leadership team and has traveled with Goals for Girls to Uganda, Tajikistan, Peru, and will be joining this year’s program in India in December. Jackie currently works for USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, which according to the USAID website “is responsible for leading and coordinating the U.S. Government’s response to disasters overseas.” Prior to working for USAID, Jackie worked at a wilderness therapy rehabilitation center, was a high school World Geography teacher and head soccer coach at Timpview High School, and a country director for HELP International in Uganda.
